Nature of the Position:

This position is located within the Nursing Department of the Northern Marianas College. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Department Chair of Nursing.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Participates in program review and outcomes assessment (PROA) activities. This includes, but not limited to course level assessment for all courses taught by the position, lead role in program level assessment for the nursing program, coordinating/overseeing a nursing program advisory council, and as a supportive role in program level assessment for other programs and overall institutional assessment.

  • Provides high-quality student and internal and external customer service.

  • Participates in Institutional Assessment Review as a member of an Accreditation Standard Team.

  • Participate as a member of the faculty team in organizing and coordinating theory and clinical learning experiences related to the Nursing profession.

  • Conducts lectures, small group discussions, issues assignments, supervises clinical, provides demonstration of skills, and supervises return demonstrators of skills.

  • Develops and administers methods of evaluation of theory using examinations, presentations, written assignments, and clinical papers.

  • Evaluates students' progress, maintains record of student classroom and clinical experiences, and periodically advises student of progression in class.

  • Participates in updating and revising curriculum, course guide revision, course preparation, selection of textbooks, and preparation of teaching schedule.

  • Posts and maintains regular office hours for student counseling.

  • Advises students on academic matters.

  • Makes appropriate referral to other student support services.

  • Teaches at least thirty (30) credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) in the areas of Nursing.

  • Uses a variety of teaching methods designed to enhance student learning, reading, and writing proficiency, interpretive abilities, and the development of critical thinking skills.

  • Exhibits sensitivity of student' personal, cultural, and gender differences in a non-threatening learning environment.

  • Participates in community activities for college representation, student recruitment, and other purposes of institutional advancement as assigned by Department Chair, Dean of Academic Programs and Services, or the President of NMC.

  • Plans and implements educational and training workshops are requested by the Department Chair or community agency.

  • Assists the department chair as requested by conducting classroom observation of department faculty for full-time and/or adjunct faculty, and submits written reports of these observations through the Nursing Chair for faculty evaluation purposes (peer evaluation).

  • Assist the Nursing Program through the assignment of the Department Chair as needed.

  • Reviews the qualifications of adjunct faculty to teach courses within the employees' area of expertise, and make recommendations to the Department Chair for certification of hiring.

  • Maintains a good working relationship with the department personnel and other College employees.

  • Adheres to College policies and procedures.

  • Provides information and assistance to the department chair in budget matters related to the Nursing Program.

  • Submits monthly reports to the Department Chair regarding information on activities, accomplishments, and problems/concerns.

  • Assist the department in developing, revising, and implementing the goals and objectives of the Nursing Program.

  • Works cooperatively with other departments in implementing the Nursing Program and College Mission.

  • Performs other related duties as requested and assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Master's degree in Nursing; or Master's degree in health education, public health, or any health science, plus a Bachelor's degree in Nursing;

(b) A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the United States or U.S. territories, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI);

(c) At least three (3) years of nursing experience.

All post-secondary education degrees must be from a U.S. Department of Education recognized and accredited institution.


All faculty candidates must demonstrate their knowledge of the subject matter they will teach, as well as their abilities to effectively teach in the assigned discipline.

The Department of Nursing and Allied Health seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach courses beginning Fall semester 2013.


PSYCHIATRIC/MENTAL HEALTH NURSING

Responsibilities include planning, developing, teaching, and evaluating theory, simulation, and clinical courses in the area of psychiatric/mental health nursing, as well as teaching other nursing courses. Candidates should possess experience in caring for patients/clients with psychiatric/mental healthcare issues. Candidates should also have experience in mental health promotion, assessing mental health needs, and providing therapeutic interventions for mental illness or mental distress of adults and older adults. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the teaching of other nursing courses, advising students, service to the university and department, and professional development. Teaching responsibility is 12 credits per semester.


Requirements:


Masters Degree in Nursing with a minimum of three years of recent full-time experience in adult health nursing; current licensure (or eligibility) in Massachusetts; strong clinical skills.


A doctorate degree or matriculation in a doctoral program and teaching experience at the baccalaureate level are preferred qualifications.

Definition:


Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Instruction, or designee, the Director of Nursing & Health Occupations will serve as the program director for the nursing, health occupations and allied health programs. Responsibilities will include development, direction, management and evaluation of current and future health career training programs.


The Director of Nursing & Health Occupations is an academic management position that has primary responsibility to build, maintain, and expand the exemplary programs and partnerships needed to train and prepare students for health careers. The position will work closely with health care providers, regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, professional groups, funding sources, and area colleges and universities to keep instruction, technology, and standards of practice up to date in current programs and to build new programs as appropriate for the area. The position is directly responsible for providing the leadership, skills, direction, and oversight of the college's nursing and health occupation programs and associated partnerships, faculty, staff, facilities, budget, policies, and procedures.


The incumbent must work closely with other college and district administrators in an environment of participatory governance to provide optimum quality services to students, faculty and staff at a community college. The position is categorically funded by a combination of grant funds and program-generated funding.


Assignment:


100% of full time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of September 18, 2013. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed.

Salary and Benefits:



  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $8,486-$8,991 (monthly) with a maximum monthly earnable of $10,251.

  • A master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university, which includes course-work in nursing, education or administration (Section 1425).

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a registered nurse with one year of continuous, full time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse within the previous five years.

  • One year of experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities.

  • Two years of experience teaching in a pre- or post-licensure registered nursing program.

  • Demonstrate "Clinical competence" as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing in Section 1420c.

  • A current, clear and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Program Management

  • Participate in state and regional director meetings and other meetings with industry, educational and agency partners related to health care training and education for the region.

  • Coordinate with the department to hold new student orientations, implement nursing program student policies, and develop course and clinical rotation schedules.

  • Complete the clinical facilities approval process for every agency that will be utilized according to agency regulations.

  • Schedule clinical rotations for health occupations programs, attain new clinical opportunities for students, and maintain contractual relationships and obligations with local health care organizations.

  • Head the process of accreditation and the preparation of reports for visits, program review, and licensing agencies.

  • Facilitate program advisory committee meetings and ensure strong community ties for all health occupations programs.

  • Manage Nursing Curriculum.

  • Participate in identification and validation of prerequisites, facilitate curriculum development, orchestrate approvals of curriculum change with curriculum committee, regulatory agencies, Chancellor's Office, NLNAC, etc.

  • Monitor and evaluate existing curriculum and faculty adherence to the curriculum on a continuing basis, and incorporate current educational strategies and technology into the curriculum.


Manage Facilities and Information Technology



  • Facilitate incorporation of current educational technology into curriculum and clinical practice, and oversee health occupations programs website/web resources.

  • Manage use of skills and simulation labs, and obtain and maintain equipment and supplies.


Manage Human Resources



  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring process of faculty and support staff in accordance with college/district policies and ensure faculty/staff meet requirements of regulatory and clinical agencies as well as state, local, federal regulations.

  • Manage orientation of all personnel to school, program and clinical sites.

  • Assist in the assignment, supervision, evaluation and development of faculty and support staff.

  • Investigate personnel issues and student complaints, facilitate conflict resolution, and participate in disciplinary actions.

  • Facilitate and encourage ongoing professional development of faculty and staff, and develop and mentor faculty for various assistant director/coordinator roles.


Facilitate Student Needs and Activities



  • Maintain student contact, provide student advisement, facilitate communication of pertinent program and professional information and refer students to appropriate student services (DSPS remediation).

  • Administer student disciplinary process and participate in student grievance process.

  • Facilitate employment opportunities, administer scholarship process, oversee student ceremonies, and support student clubs and associations.


Promote Community Awareness and Public Relations



  • Participate in marketing and outreach activities, and represent the college on boards and committees at local, regional, state and national levels.


Manage Fiscal and Grant Resources



  • Work with the department and programs to develop annual budgets, perform ongoing budget analyses, monitor ongoing expenses.

  • Work closely with the Economic & Workforce Development and Career Technical Education units of the college to pursue and coordinate state, federal and private initiatives, grants, partnerships and resources related to health careers.

  • Develop strong ties with local, regional and statewide consortia, agencies, organizations, business and industry to benefit the health occupations programs.

  • Pursue and expand federal, state, and local grants and alternative funding and revenue-generating opportunities to build and strengthen health occupations programs, and ensure that grants and initiatives are implemented according to approved plans and reporting requirements are met.


Collaborate with College/District



  • Support and advocate for the needs of Nursing and Health Occupations programs.

  • Communicate college activities, policies, and administrative decisions to the department faculty, staff, and students.

  • Participate in the governance and professional activities of the college.

  • Immediately report known or likely fraud, illegal acts, violation of provisions of contracts or grant agreements to the appropriate parties.

  • Prepare and administer annual budgets for assigned area; review and approve expenditures according to established District policies and procedures.

  • Prepare and monitor budgets in areas of assigned responsibility. Assure maintenance of documentation according to established policies and procedures.

Job Summary : Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assists with providing leadership in managing and implementing a comprehensive post-secondary adult vocational nursing program for delivery in support of College, campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace and placement expectations. Participates in budget preparation and fiscal administration, curriculum development and coordination, determination of teaching assignments, supervision and evaluation of faculty, and selection/coordination of program specific external clinical facilities and instruction. Provides professional leadership and support for teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.


Qualifications:

Minimum of three (3) years experience as a registered nurse. One (1) year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination thereof, in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five (5) years; or a minimum of three (3) years experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five (5) years


Bachelor degree from an accredited school required


Master's degree in nursing preferred


Must be a graduate from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the specialty field or subject area


Must have completed a course or courses offered by an accredited school with instruction in administration, teaching, and curriculum development


Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License required


Current Driver’s License and CPR Card required


Must have approval by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) prior to assuming the role of Assistant Director of Nursing


Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence


Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services


Knowledge and evidence of strong supervisory and management skills as applicable to specialized program area


Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as Title IV, ABHES, BVNPT, BPPE, and other accreditation standards


Experience with MS Office


Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports and projections

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:


The nursing director and health science chair is responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing education and health science programs. REQUIREMENTS:



  • Master's degree in nursing, doctoral preferred.

  • Hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse in Georgia.

  • Have at least 2 years full time or equivalent direct care experience as a practicing nurse.

  • At least three (3) years teaching experience in a nursing education program leading to initial registered nurse licensure or completion of a higher degree.
