Nursing Instructor

Job Description

Position Summary


Faculty members teach assigned classes in accordance with established policies and guidelines; participate in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities; and perform supervisory responsibilities as assigned. To reach a broad range of students, CWI encourages exploring alternative teaching styles and methods. Courses will be taught in traditional classroom settings, in computer-mediated classrooms, and over the internet. This position includes classes taught in the evenings and when necessary, off campus.

NURSING


Primary responsibilities include providing classroom, campus lab, and clinical instruction in the RN programs; participating in accreditation and curriculum development/revision; and participating in orientation and registration activities. Instructors also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation of students, participating in program and faculty meetings, and keeping regular posted office hours.


This is a full-time faculty position.


Essential Functions



  • Teaches a minimum semester credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog

  • Devises and utilizes outcomes assessment measures

  • Participates in faculty development goals to improve professional effectiveness

  • Participates in instructional evaluation processes

  • Meets all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels

  • Participates in student advising

  • Monitors student placement in courses and student progress; maintains accurate records

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students

  • Promotes and helps with learning assistance services

  • Cooperates with other areas of the College to provide an effective educational program

  • Develops and recommends new courses and programs of study

  • Attends and participates in all departmental, division, and faculty meetings

  • Participates in all graduation exercises

  • Participates in faculty evaluations

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution or equivalent education or experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience within the past 5 years

  • Current Idaho RN license required by the start date

  • Ability to adapt to variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology

  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development

  • Ability to advise students

  • Proficiency in usage of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications


Superior Candidates

  • Previous experience teaching in a nursing program

  • Family Nursing clinical experience

  • Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners

  • Experience using instructional technology

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually working indoors which means exposure to heating or air conditioning. There may be some outdoor exposure when transferring between locations. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet but varies based upon activity.


The duties of this job require the employee to travel to offsite satellite campus locations as needed, to accommodate student requirements for personal customer service.
