FULLTIME FACULTY (Med-Surg/OB/Peds), SP2014 Semester


ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM


OVERVIEW:

The Shepherd University School of Nursing is seeking a full-time Assistant Director, Nursing Instructor with strong medical-surgical and management/leadership, OB, Peds, and gerontology competencies relevant to instructional area. The faculty work closely together in the Associate Degree Programs and applicants must possess a knowledge base of registered nursing roles. Responsibilities include teaching nursing theory and clinical/laboratory content.


1) ASSISTANT DIRECTOR


POSITION DUTIES OF ASSISTANT DIRECTOR:

In addition to the responsibilities of the classification description, the specific position is also responsible for:

1. Performing theory instruction in the Associate Degree Nursing Programs.

2. Providing clinical supervision, performance counseling, and evaluation of students.

3. Assisting the Director with the coordination of curriculum, staff, facilities and schedule for the nursing programs.

4. Working cooperatively and effectively with department staff and clinical agencies to carry out the instructional plan of the program.

5. Complying with the Board of Registered Nursing policies to maintain program approval and standards.


QUALIFICATIONS OF ASSISTANT DIRECTOR:

-A minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a nurse educator or administrative position in a nursing education program.

-Hold a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of California

-Hold a Master's Degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes coursework in nursing, education or administration.

-A minimum of one year experience in an administrative position.

-A minimum of three years teaching in RN program.

-At least three year’s experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care; or equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the board.

-Strong verbal and writing skills and computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


2) NURSING INSTRUCTOR (Med-Surg/OB), F/T, Opening SP2014 Semester


OVERVIEW:

The Shepherd University School of Nursing is seeking a full-time Instructor with strong medical-surgical and/or OB competencies relevant to instructional area. The faculty work closely together in the Associate Degree Programs and applicants must possess a knowledge base of registered nursing roles.


Primary responsibilities include classroom and practicum teaching in the ADN and BSN programs. The faculty member will participate in course and program development, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the faculty member will make site visits to healthcare agencies hosting practicum sites in order to assess and evaluate the implementation of the curriculum and teaching/learning activities in accord with accreditation and state regulatory standards and requirements. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service activities that support the mission of the School of Nursing and the university. Higher degree nursing teaching experience desired.


QUALIFICATIONS OF INSTRUCTORS (THEORY/CLINICAL):

-Master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration.

-At least THREE (3) years’ experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within five years.

-Must have completed TWO (2) years of teaching experiences related to RN Programs (ADN or BSN program) in nursing schools or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.


SALARY & BENEFITS:

Starting salary ranges for entry-level positions is $65,000 to $90,000 for the 12 months. The selected candidate will be allocated within the salary range upon evaluation by the Shepherd University Human Resources. Benefits included medical, vision, dental, and paid vacation, and life insurance are available for the employee.
