Nursing Simulation/Lab Coordinator

Job Description: Coordinates the simulation programs for all levels of the Harper College Nursing Program in collaboration with Nursing faculty. Responsible for working with Nursing faculty to integrate simulation into the learning strategies and assessment processes of the curriculum to support student achievement of program outcomes. Oversee nursing laboratory personnel.

Duties of Position: Coordinates and develops simulation activities in the nursing laboratory and simulation hospital.


Collaborates with Nursing faculty to develop simulation scenarios to support and track the student achievement of nursing program outcomes.


Collaborates with Nursing faculty and other Health Careers departments on interdisciplinary simulation.


Plans, implements, and evaluates clinical lab activities in accordance with program policies, course objectives, and program outcomes.


Utilizes instructional methods that promote student development of critical thinking, sound decision making, and clinical competency.


Serves as an expert resource to faculty in developing simulation in the classroom, laboratory and simulation hospital.


Assists faculty in the instruction of students to meet course objectives through utilization of the Human Patient Simulation.


Develops, evaluates and refines scenarios utilized for simulation experiences to include role playing, props, and dialogue that provide a realistic learning environment.


Develops evaluation plans to measure learning outcomes ensuring that simulations are achieving the desired competencies.


Establishes practices and procedures for simulation and the laboratory activities that provide for effective learning experiences and safe practice.


Evaluates the effectiveness of simulation/laboratory processes and makes recommendations to faculty/Director of Nursing for improvement.


Reinforces didactic instruction through provision of planned laboratory experiences.


Develops nursing laboratory budget including recommendations for equipment purchases to maintain standards essential for effective instruction.


Directs and maintains inventory of supplies to support all instruction in the laboratory.


Provides direction for all support staff including student tutors for the nursing laboratory.


Participates in professional development to effectively advance simulation as an instructional method.


Attends simulation user group meetings or organizational groups at the local, state, and national levels.


Performs related duties as assigned.


Education Requirements: Master's degree in Nursing required.

Unencumbered Licensed Registered Nurse in state of Illinois.


Experience Requirements: Two or more years of relevant experience or full-time teaching in nursing education.


Demonstrated experience and proficiency in nursing simulation education required, minimum of one year, including use of Laerdal simulation products (SimMan and Noelle), as well as video.


Experience with instructional technology required.


Computer proficiency required.


Experience in supervising personnel preferred.
