General Function

The Visiting Instructor is a non-tenure track position held by an individual who possesses all the qualifications to be appointed at that rank or who has held that rank at another institution. The Visiting Instructor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor.

Description of Primary Duties

1. Provide primary care to patients at MSU Care, a grant-funded NP clinic for the uninsured and underserved.

2. Precept FNP students at MSU Care.

3. Perform some teaching duties in one of the Department programs.

4. Participate in service to the Department.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Visiting Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.


Additional Qualifications

Masters degree in nursing from a program accredited by CCNE or NLNAC. A doctoral degree in nursing or related field or significant progress toward a doctoral degree is desirable and required for assistant professor appointment.

Current license, without restriction, to practice nursing, and eligibility for RN licensure in Missouri.

Current certification as an adult or family nurse practitioner and recognition by the State of Missouri as an advanced practice nurse currently or prior to hire,

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Flexible and ability to work effectively in a group toward common goals

Education and or experience with diverse and underserved populations.

Current evidence-based clinical practice skills.

Experience collaborating with diverse community partners.
