The George Mason University, College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) invites applications for a visionary leader for the position of Director of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
The College of Health and Human Services is a vigorous, innovative teaching- and research-focused academic unit. One of the fastest growing academic units at George Mason University, CHHS is home to academic programs focused on an array of disciplines and fields of research in public health, social work, health administration and policy, nutrition, and rehabilitation science that will comprise a future school of public health. Mason is a research intensive, multicampus university located in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area with over 33,000 students studying in 198 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It is an innovative, entrepreneurial institution with national distinction, and with proximity to the nation's capital, offering students and faculty opportunities to engage in significant national and international initiatives; as well as easy access to major resources supporting the teaching, research and service mission of the university.
Mason's School of Nursing Director has the opportunity to lead a large and complex established unit that includes 40 full-time nursing faculty, 34 part-time nursing faculty, approximately 400 undergraduate students, and 170 master's and 80 doctoral students. In addition to a traditional B.S.N. program, there is an accelerated pathway programs for second degree students, and a rapidly growing RN to BSN pathway. The school is expanding its research mission as well as its unique faculty practice plan with partners throughout northern Virginia. Among its nationally recognized graduate programs, the MSN, Ph.D. and DNP offer multiple subspecialty practice tracks. The School of Nursing is also widely recognized for its innovative delivery of academic programs involving distance education and community-based learning. Opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and research have been enhanced by the school's location in CHHS. Construction planning is underway for new facilities for both the school and the college.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate must have an earned doctorate and qualify for an appointment as administrative faculty. The successful candidate must hold a nursing degree and valid nursing license, and have a track record of successful academic leadership and management in a university setting. In addition to being a persuasive visionary, preferred qualities include demonstrated leadership; research achievement and understanding; a commitment for excellence in both undergraduate and graduate programs; ability to articulate and promote the needs and achievements of the school; supportive of a collegial environment of shared governance; appreciation for clinical experiences and distance education; a track record for community outreach and fundraising; and a desire to build a school that will be recognized as a national model in its teaching, research, practice, and service achievements.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
