Description:

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an opening for a Research Nurse to support clinical research efforts in our division including but not limited to a large, multicenter, NIH funded project. The Research Nurse collaborates with the Principal Investigator, Manager of Research Operations, Research Nurse Coordinator and others to support the process, progress, and results of clinical research projects for division projects including the NICHD Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Research Network and other divisional research studies. S/he communicates with relevant medical and nursing staff and patients to ensure appropriate study procedures are understood and completed. Coordinates with a Research Nurse Coordinator and data entry clerk/administrative staff with preparation of study documents for IRB, amendments and revisions, recruitment of patients, completion of informed consent forms, coordination of clinic space as necessary for research visits, scheduling of testing and patient visits in accordance with study schedule, and filing of adverse event forms. The Research Nurse evaluates participants for changes in health status and communicates any concerns to the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team. S/he will work with the assigned Research Nurse Coordinator to collect, analyze and work with the Data Entry Clerk or data manager to enter data for registries and database maintenance of accurate data collection, and reporting requirements. S/he interacts with outpatients and inpatients in Labor and Delivery, and with nursing and other staff in the OB outpatient clinics and in Labor and Delivery. The project includes patient recruitment at off-site hospitals and clinics such as Sequoia Hospital and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, so travel to those sites and coordination with collaborative physicians and other research staff are required. In addition, the position requires coordination with multiple Stanford Departments including the IRB Contract Office, clinical laboratories and Pharmacy. This position has flexible work hours which may involve day weekend or night time coverage and/or call. There is the possibility that shifts and locations may change over time based on the research needs of the division.


Qualifications:


Candidate must have experience with the conduct of clinical research, including patient recruitment, and data organization and management and should have familiarity with the clinical research process and management. Knowledge of general nursing, good clinical practice (GCP), research-related financial and budgetary processes (tracking study costs and sponsor payments), basic word processing, and database spreadsheet skills are required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Ability to function independently, to prioritize multiple tasks with a multi-disciplinary care team, and work effectively with minimal supervision required. Meticulous attention to detail and thorough record-keeping required. Candidate must have, or obtain, updated training in HIPAA, blood borne pathogens and Human Subjects Research Protection. Four year degree in Nursing or equivalent experience is required plus 2 years related experience desired. Must be a licensed registered nurse with current license to practice in California. Applicants with 5 years or more of experience will be considered at the 4P3 level for this position.
