Assistant/Associate Professor – Nursing (2 positions)

General Summary of Position: The School of Nursing seeks research scholars for a tenure-track position at rank commensurate with experience. Applicants who are interested in opportunities for developing interprofessional research are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have a research program that builds upon health promotion across the lifespan in the areas of gerontology, rehabilitation, neuroscience and/or behavioral health. Of particular interest are programs of research that focus on quality and safety. Applicants with a record of accomplishments, including external funding will be strongly considered. Opportunities also exist for interdisciplinary research with faculty from other campus departments.


The successful candidate will be a scientist/educator who will have critical role in the School of Nursing, including the graduate programs.


He/she will develop and maintain an independent extramurally funded research program, as well as collaborate with colleagues on joint projects.


The faculty member will also:



  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research.

  • Develop research and practice relations with health care settings.

  • Teach in the School of Nursing programs.

  • Advise students.

  • Participate in professional and university service.


The School of Nursing offers classes taught by highly qualified faculty, hands-on laboratory and clinical experiences, in a variety of health care settings. The School is housed in the new state-of-the-art Health and Social Sciences Building.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • PhD in Nursing or a a related field (must have PhD at the time of application)

  • Expertise in health promotion across the lifespan, gerontology, rehabilitation and/or mental health nursing areas of nursing research and practice.

  • The ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.

  • Strong track record in research and publication.

  • Evidence of ability to develop independent research program & secure extramural funding

  • Assistant Professor rank candidates must have a research program with a strong likelihood of funding

  • Associate Professor rank candidates must have a strong record of research in a currently tenured position with a record of extramurally support research.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication in English

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching & scholarly activity.

  • Evidence of ability to develop independent research program & secure extramural funding

  • Post-doctoral experience preferred.


Special Instructions:

Required: Writing Sample - Publications in Peer-reviewed Journals-- Please include, 1-2 samples of published work in peer-reviewed journals in the area of funding/funding potential, preferably as first author. If no publication is available, a 10-15 page example of your scholarly work will be acceptable.


Required: Research Statement - Please include, research goals and objectives.


Required: Teaching Philosophy and Experience - Please include 1) description of previous teaching experience and 2) teaching philosophy and style.
