Description:

The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the Cancer Clinical Trials Office at Stanford University wishes to hire a Clinical Research Nurse Practitioner (CRNPP) to support clinical and translational research studies in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology clinical trials program. The CRNP will support oncology patients participating in research studies and the medical faculty, including pediatric oncologists and pediatric hematologists.

The Peds Hem/Onc/CCTO CRNPP serves as an advanced practice nurse providing oversight, guidance, and support to clinical trial personnel as well as continuity of care to research subjects. The CRNP oversees the bedside nursing staff as they perform components of clinical trials on patients enrolled on Phase I and Neuroblastoma clinical trials in consultation with the Principal Investigators (PIs). The Peds Hem/Onc CRNP will operate as the PI's proxy to enter protocol orders into the electronic medical record and use existing prescriptive authority.


The Clinical Research Nurse (CRNP) will participate in all facets of clinical and translational research studies and will be responsible for study protocol compliance including participation in study initiation visits by the sponsor, completion of the IRB submission, amendments, and revisions, recruitment of eligible patients, completion of the informed consent process, coordination of clinic space as necessary for research visits, and scheduling of testing and patient visits in accordance with each specific study schedule, responding to queries from sponsors, and filing of serious adverse event forms. The CRNP will be evaluating participants for changes in health status (medications, toxicities, etc.) and communicating any concerns to the Protocol Director(s) and other members of the Peds Hem/Onc research team. She/he will interact with patients and their family members by answering questions, providing support, referring patients to ancillary services as appropriate, and keeping the Protocol Director(s) and clinical team informed of any pertinent issues.


Budget responsibilities will include initially assisting in the development of the study budget by identifying charges that are billable to the research study, and those that are billed to insurance, reviewing weekly/monthly charges to assure billing is correct, and tracking budget along with enrollment. She/he will work with the Peds Hem/Onc faculty and CRAs to maintain clinical and research databases that are used to promote high quality care and improve performance in the clinical care of patients (e.g., tracking adverse outcomes and complications, comprehensive research patient database). The CRNP will be an integral part of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinical and Research team. The CRNP may be required to participate in training other coordinators or clinical personnel. She/he will interact with multiple Stanford departments including the IRB, Contracts Office, clinical laboratories, hospital nursing units, clinical lab, pharmacy, and research coordinators. This position is 100% FTE. 50% effort will be dedicated to the support of neuroblastoma clinical trials and 50% effort will be dedicated to other phase I clinical trials in pediatric oncology and/or hematology.


Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Nursing along with five years related experience required. Current CA Nursing license and previous clinical trial experience also required. Candidate should have familiarity with the clinical research process and clinical trial management. Knowledge of general nursing, good clinical practice (GCP), health care economics - insurance billing, research-related financial and budgetary processes (tracking study costs and sponsor payments), basic word processing, and database spreadsheet skills are required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Ability to function independently, to prioritize multiple tasks in both an inpatient and outpatient setting with a multi-disciplinary care team, and work effectively with minimal supervision required. Meticulous attention to detail and thorough record-keeping required. Candidate must have updated training in HIPAA, bloodborne pathogens and Human Subjects Research Protection. Pediatric oncology experience is highly desirable.
