The Dean of the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing is an important member of the academic leadership team of the University.


The College of Health, Human Services and Nursing prepares knowledgeable, competent and effective professionals in a diversity of fields. The college offers undergraduate degrees in nursing, health science, clinical science, human services, child development, and physical education. The college also prepares students for careers requiring graduate degrees in nursing, orthotics and prosthetics (health science option), occupational therapy, social work, marital and family therapy, and physical education administration. The programs are offered through various modes, including face-to-face, online, and off-campus. These degree programs require substantial internship and/or service learning experiences that produce practitioners who are committed to improving lifelong health and wellness, development, and overall adaptability in a diverse and evolving society. The college currently serves over 3100 graduate and approximately 2400 undergraduate students, and has approximately forty full-time faculty.


Position Description

The Dean is the chief executive officer of the College and a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team. The College of HHSN includes the departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Sciences, Kinesiology and Recreation, Occupational Therapy, and Social Work, as well as the School of Nursing. Also housed in the college are degree programs in Marital and Family Therapy and Orthotics and Prosthetics. Responsible for an annual budget of nearly $10 million, the Dean provides leadership for the college as it seeks to prepare knowledgeable, competent and effective professionals who are committed to improving lifelong health and wellness, development and overall adaptability in a diverse and evolving society. In consultation with the faculty, the Dean will lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan in alignment with that of the University, which will include initiatives to further develop the faculty’s research, scholarly and creative activity potential, bringing these elements to the undergraduate experience.


Minimum Qualifications

• An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in one of the disciplines represented in the College

• Record of accomplishment in teaching and scholarship to qualify as a tenured full professor

• At least three years of successful leadership experience at the level of department chair or higher

• Experience managing budgets and personnel

• Experience with assessment, accreditation, service learning, and community engagement

• A commitment to working with diverse student populations, staff, and faculty

• Experience developing K-12, community, and/or industry partnerships

• Demonstrated commitment to faculty and student research


Preferred Qualifications

• Successful experience generating external funding including grants and gifts

• Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans

• Experience connecting planning decisions to assessment and curriculum development

• Experience in tenure and promotion decision-making process

• Demonstrated commitment to shared governance

• Experience in a comprehensive urban university

• Successful experience working in a collective bargaining environment
