Posting Description: The College of Nursing invites candidates to apply for a joint faculty position between the College and Children's Hospital Colorado. The successful candidate will assume a senior-level leadership position, be part of the Hospital Executive Nursing Council, and be eligible for a faculty-rank in the College of Nursing.The University of Colorado Denver is a research-intensive university located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The College of Nursing offers four degrees: BS, MS, DNP, and PhD. In addition to being the only pediatric Level 1 trauma center in the region, Children's Colorado treats virtually all conditions, minor and serious, that affect children.
Children's Colorado ranked No. 7 on the U.S. News & World Report's 2013-14 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll. Children's Colorado also ranked in all 10 surveyed specialties and nine of the 10 ranked in the top 20. Six of the hospital's specialties ranked among the top 10: gastroenterology & GI surgery (No. 5), pulmonology (No. 5), diabetes & endocrinology (No. 8), neonatology (No. 9), orthopedics (No. 9) and cancer (No. 9). Specialties that ranked in the top 20 include: cardiology & heart surgery (No. 12), urology (No. 13), and neurology & neurosurgery (No. 18). Children's Colorado has a decades-long history as a leader in advanced practice nursing, with nurse practitioners in most specialty and subspecialty practice areas. There are approximately 300 nurse practitioners employed by the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children's Colorado. Our nurse practitioners are educated and certified as FNP, PNP, NNP, CNM and CRNA.
The responsibilities of this position include the following: · Provide visionary leadership in pediatric advanced nursing practice at the hospital, college, campus, state, and national levels. · Advocate for all advance practice providers at Children's Colorado. · Coordinate between the College and Hospital for graduate education, opportunities in translational research, evidence-based practice, and outcomes evaluation. · Provide guidance and expertise for changes in pediatric advanced practice nursing in line with current and anticipated state and national health policies. Optimize the role and utilization of advanced practice nurses at the Hospital to maximize the full scope of the advanced practice role. · Design, implement, and evaluate state of the art advance practice nursing at the Hospital and its affiliates as well as with constituents across the Anschutz Medical Campus. · Act as a key player on an all-campus advanced practice group of the college and multiple clinical partners to implement the Future of Nursing recommendations and evaluate the campus impact. · Be a key informant in regulatory requirements and changes in advanced practice nursing and lead implementing these requirements within the Hospital organization. · Build on the strong partnership between Children's Colorado and the College of Nursing to anticipate and develop strategies for meeting the current and future educational requirements for advanced nursing practice at the Hospital, including certification, continuing education and professional development. · Understand and plan for the ongoing evaluative requirements of advanced nursing practice. · Be a thought leader for the identification of and response to continuing education and professional development requirements for advanced practice nursing; · Lead and work in interdisciplinary clinical and organizational teams.

Minimum Qualifications: · Expert in pediatric nursing · Master's degree in Nursing or graduate certificate in Advanced Practice Pediatric/Neonatal Nursing · Eligible for Colorado registered nurse license and advanced practice registry · Experience in higher education and eligible for faculty rank within the College of Nursing · Prior experience as an APRN in acute care hospital setting
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities: · Demonstrated ability to provide strong clinical and/or systems leadership in the advancement of the advanced practice role within interdisciplinary teams and at the state and national levels
Desired Qualifications: · Earned doctorate in nursing or related field · Experience in a joint position between service and education environments · Leadership in a professional organization · National certification as a nurse practitioner in pediatric acute care · Experience with program evaluation
