Program Chair – Nursing Program

Franklin University has a position available as the Program Chair for its Nursing Program. The Program Chair for Nursing provides visionary, collaborative and innovative leadership for the Nursing Program to assure that students receive an academic program of the highest quality and to encourage and stimulate the growth and quality of the nursing program. The Program Chair includes primary responsibility for program oversight/direction, curriculum development, academic quality, assessment activities, teaching, providing leadership to permanent and adjunct faculty for face-to-face and on-line courses, service on university committees, leadership in the professional community, as well as programmatic, departmental, and university requirements as needed. In addition, the Program Chair for Nursing serves as the representative for the program and Franklin University to the region, state and the nursing profession.

Specific responsibilities include: developing, implementing and evaluating the strategic and operational plans for the Nursing program in order to achieve goals and projected outcomes; providing supervision and coordination for curriculum development, implementation and evaluation including ongoing curriculum improvement; establishing enrollment goals for the program and participating in and facilitating the recruitment of students as well as evaluating and overseeing their progression and retention; teaching online courses within area of specialization/expertise and facilitating the development of faculty research/scholarly interests and expertise; assessing, planning and recommending enhancements needed to maintain the program including budgetary and capital expenditure responsibilities; a number of faculty responsibilities including recruiting, interviewing and recommending nursing faculty, providing leadership for the lead faculty and supervising the adjunct faculty, evaluating the nursing faculty for teaching effectiveness, identifying faculty development needs and planning development programs to ensure their growth and meet teaching needs; acting as a focal point within the University for communications concerning the program; developing and regularly convening a Nursing Program Advisory Board; ensuring a comprehensive program evaluation that includes curriculum, faculty, student and program outcomes, the achievement of professional program accreditation and ensuring the nursing program operations are conducted in compliance with applicable state, federal and local laws, regulations and ordinances and within standards of accreditation.


We seek someone with an earned doctorate from an accredited institution (ABD within one year of completion will be considered), a Master's degree in Nursing, MSN/MS from an accredited institution, an active RN License in the State of Ohio, previous online teaching experience in a higher education nursing program, and knowledge and experience with accreditation standards and processes, specifically the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In addition, we are looking for someone with professional certification who will work collaboratively with other members of the College to shape the program and experiences students have. Working closely with the Department Chair, this individual will work in the trenches to run the Program, manage the adjunct faculty and develop online courses. Three to five years of previous supervisory/managerial experience that included budgeting, scheduling, program development and evaluation and performance evaluation is required. We prefer someone with previous teaching and leadership experience within a baccalaureate (BSN) nursing program and five years of professional nursing work experience with clinical, managerial or education roles.
