Librarian

Job Description

The College of Nursing Liaison provides leadership in the planning, coordinating, delivery, promotion, and assessment of library and information services for faculty and students in the ECU College of Nursing. This position serves as a member of the Information Services Department and provides reference services, including regular shifts at the library's Service Desk, and related tasks assisting library users as needed. This position also develops and delivers library skills training for on campus and distance education students using current and developing technologies. Specific Duties Functions as a liaison to the College of Nursing by building and maintaining strong professional relationships with faculty and students, assessing information needs and responding with appropriate library services and resources, using current technology trends and implementing best practices. The Liaison will promote Laupus Library services, print and electronic collections, review subject literature, orient new faculty, students, and staff, serve on committees and work groups as needed within College of Nursing. Is involved with clinical nursing research projects in collaboration with Vidant Medical Center, which is the teaching hospital for ECU and the flagship hospital for Vidant Health. Creates, publicizes and maintains online support materials, such as tutorials for research databases, short online classes, face to face classes and other training for College of Nursing faculty and students. Develops and presents library skills programs and information skills instruction for students, faculty, and staff in traditional, non-traditional, and distance learning programs supported by the Laupus Library, especially in the areas of evidence-based health care and informatics skills. Maintains current knowledge and skills related to technologies and trends distance education and related fields. Proactively seeks ways to utilize new technologies to improve library skills instruction. Contributes leadership to Laupus Library and the assigned department or school in the adaptation and integration of technology for effective teaching, communication and research including, but not limited to, new research databases, software, library services, and related information programs. Recommends acquisitions in subject areas appropriate to the College of Nursing for reference collection, and other Laupus Library collections as necessary. Assists in developing the print and electronic reference collections. Serves on or contributes to the Collection Development/E-Resources Committee. Actively assists in designing, implementing and maintaining online information related to Information Services Department, online databases, online tutorials, and other related services and/or resources. Collaborates and works closely with Laupus Library Multimedia & Technology Services (MTS) department as needed to achieve goals. Assists with Outreach/Eastern AHEC Librarian to provide library instruction and support to health professionals in the 23 county Eastern AHEC region, as needed. Provides reference services to varied Laupus Library clients using both print and electronic resources and techniques. Participates in the work of the Information Services unit and collaborates with other colleagues as appropriate. Participates in Laupus Library committees and projects as assigned. Participates in scholarly activities and professional service. Maintains professional demeanor, behavior and ethics. Performs other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Assistant Director for User Services. Initial appointment is a one (1) year fixed term contract, subsequent renewal may be for a multi-year fixed-term contract.

Minimum Qualifications

ALA accredited master's degree in Library Science required. Health sciences library experience or relevant course work in the health sciences is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with significant professional experience in an academic or health sciences library.
