Required Qualifications: Current NYS Nursing License. Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends. Minimum two years recent clinical experience in acute or critical care nursing.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree in Nursing or related field. Recent critical care nursing experience. Experience in program development or in-service education, preferably in a hospital or School of Nursing.


Brief Description of Duties:



  • Identifies learning needs, prepares educational programs and develops curriculum to meet those needs.

  • Conducts classes for all levels in the Division of Nursing.

  • Revises curriculum objectives and content in response to new policies, procedures and equipment.

  • Maintains course outlines, teaching materials and attendance records for selected educational offerings.

  • Responsible for teaching Critical Care, EKG and Nurse Residency curriculum classes.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of all programs and revises teaching methods and class content as indicated.

  • Participates in all aspects of training of new employees to the Division of Nursing.

  • Collaborates with unit-based educators and unit & nursing leadership to address new and continuing educational needs of the staff.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Special Notes: Shift: Full-time Day Position 830am-5pm. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
