PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN INSTRUCTOR

(Part-Time, Hourly Instructor)

We invite your application for this part-time position. Under general direction, in a State hospital or Community College, to teach and supervise Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices, and Psychiatric Technician Students in a training course designed to prepare them as Psychiatric Technicians. The position will also provide nonmedical surgical nursing training to other hospital personnel and perform other related work. Napa Valley College has openings for a part-time, hourly instructor for second semester Developmental Disabilities and one opening for a substitute instructor.

Responsibilities

Teach fundamental, developmental and psychiatric nursing to Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students and other hospital personnel; supervise and review on-the-job training of Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students; confer with the Psychiatric Nursing Education Director, receive instructions, and make reports and recommendations on the training of Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students and other hospital personnel; participate in the evaluation of educational programs and in the development of educational policies; plan and evaluate students' educational experience; confer with unit and program supervisors and advise them on training principles and practices; and keep records and prepares reports.



Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. And Possession of a Standard Teaching Credential with specialization in junior college teaching or a Standard Designated Subjects Teaching Credential, or shall otherwise have training, education, or experience required to teach in the accredited program or any portion thereof in a California junior college or State college. Minimum qualifications for NVC adjunct faculty is 6 years' experience in the field and an A. S. degree.

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Knowledge of: Fundamental, developmental and psychiatric nursing principles and techniques; principles, methods, and techniques in planning, organizing, and conducting educational courses in general behavioral and psychiatric nursing and related subjects; medical and psychiatric terminology.


• Ability to: Apply the principles, methods and techniques involved in conducting training courses in general behavioral and psychiatric nursing and related subjects; supervise on-the-job training of students; evaluate the progress of students; communicate effectively; keep records and prepare reports.


• Aptitude for and interest in teaching nursing.


• Understanding of mentally or developmentally disabled clients.


• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of clients, students, and clinical staff members.


• Hearing and vision required for successful job performance.

Nature of Assignment/Compensation

This is a part-time, temporary instructor position. Part-time instructors may not exceed 67% of a full-time load each semester. Appropriate placement on the current part-time faculty salary schedule is commensurate with previous college experience ($50.08-$54.16 per hour for 2013-2014).
