Under the direction of the Associate Dean, School of Applied Sciences will facilitate a residential BSN program and an RN to BSN Program. Candidate will be responsible for the establishment and continued development of the identified program and all required approvals. The Chair will implement strategies to promote the recruitment, advising and retention of students, course scheduling and oversight of clinical placements while achieving College and departmental goals and outcomes.
The three key areas of responsibility include: oversight of the academic program quality and maintaining compliance with accreditation standards, providing guidance to full-time and part-time faculty teaching within the program, and ensuring participation in College initiatives and compliance with College policies and practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Curriculum development working collaboratively with members of the larger College community and regulatory and accrediting agencies, in determining course offerings and complying with requirements for curriculum, faculty and students.
- Ensuring courses meet progression and are in sequence in order for students to fulfill BSN requirements.
- Oversight of curriculum, assessment, and ongoing evaluation of students, faculty, and program
- Coordinate admission process and in consultation with the Associate Dean, determine student candidacy and admission to the program.
- Interview student applicants for admission into the program.
- Coordinate clinical experiences; establish partnerships with clinical agencies. Conduct periodic clinical site visits, ensuring adherence to program standards and student health and safety at clinical sites.
- Responsible for compiling and submitting external program accreditation reports as required.
- Develop and teach one or more course(s) per semester as required.
- Supervision to full and part time program faculty including evaluation and accountability for teaching excellence
- Represent the Department through participation in the activities of professional and civic organizations
Additional, the Program Chair will maintain:
Oversight of program in all delivery methods (day, evening and online if applicable) including the utilization of quality learning assessments to drive curriculum changes and updates
- Oversee textbook and technology choices made for the academic program area(s); assist in the development of the College's library resources
- Oversee internships and capstones with visits to sites as needed; this may be delegated to other faculty.
- Evaluate internship manual, if and when appropriate, for necessary updates.
- Conduct academic program reviews as required.
- Teach courses as required.
- Attend at minimum one technology training per year to stay up-to-date with technology usage in the classroom.
Effectively manage and market the academic program
- Host one highlighted event or activity that is specific to the program per year.
- Provide academic guidance and advising to students regarding careers.
- Participate in admissions and marketing activities relative to the program.
- Ensure all specialized accreditation requirements are met in a timely manner exhibiting quality submission.
- Oversee pass rate on licensing exam.
- Make recommendations for change or updates to the academic program to ensure program relevance.
- Review course-teacher evaluations to provide guidance and improvement.
- Provide budget input to the Associate Dean to support the academic program, space and equipment needs, and training needs of the faculty.
Ensure students are securing internships and employment in the field through utilization of networking opportunities, advisory board and community outreach.
- Represent the Department through participation in the activities of professional and civic organizations
- Host meetings of all faculty teaching within the program to discuss expectations and initiatives as well as to offer a support network to advance teaching and learning.
- Serve as a mentor/guide for full-time and part-time faculty regarding teaching.
- Foster relationships that open doors for internships and employment.
- Follow-up with graduates who are not employed in the field to offer assistance. Remain knowledgeable of employed in the field rates.
- Host, at minimum, one annual Advisory Council meeting per year.
- Participate in College meetings and committees.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Nursing (preferred); master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution and a willingness to complete a doctorate degree in five years.
- Three to five years of clinical experience in nursing with current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania licensing.
- Two years teaching experience including experience with test development, , analysis, curriculum development and evaluation; preferably in a postsecondary nursing program
- Knowledge of PA Board of Nursing accreditation standards
- Experience with development of academic programs in accordance with curriculum standards
- Experience with developing and writing academic programs for approval.
