Posting Description: Instructor - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine has a 1.0 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty, this position provides outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital for the Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic. This position will also, under faculty supervision, coordinate the University of Colorado Hospital Lung Cancer Screening Program. Primary functions of the position include coordinating, triaging, and organizing patient flow as well as conducting patient visits under the supervision of attending physicians and surgeons. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for NP * Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program * Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure by a national professional organization. * Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado * Admission to the Advanced Practice Registry of the Colorado Board of Nursing * Prescriptive authority required * 1 year experience in specialty area * Current ACLS certification Minimum qualifications for PA * Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program * Allowed to practice in the state of Colorado * Prescriptive authority * 1 year experience in specialty area * Current ACLS certification
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities: Performance Requirements: 1. Knowledge of the professional medical and surgical practice to give and evaluate patient care in the lung cancer clinic. 2. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. 3. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. 4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 5. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine and surgery to provide on-going patient care. 6. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. 7. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. 8. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. 9. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their family members, medical staff, residents, fellows, medical students, and the public. 10. Ability to maintain quality control standards. 11. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 12. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. 13. Ability to communicate clearly as an integral member of a team.
