Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing – Adult Health (or Medical-Surgical Nursing)

General Description:

The Pacific Lutheran University School of Nursing invites applications for a tenure-track position in Adult Health Nursing starting Fall 2014.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  • Teach adult health content to include clinical practica at the undergraduate level and/or graduate levels based on program needs.

  • Teach in secondary area of expertise such as informatics, epidemiology, evaluation & outcomes research, risk management, quality management, trans-cultural nursing, resource management, or other areas appropriate and clearly related to the School's mission and curriculum.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a program of scholarship related to adult health (M/S) nursing that meets expectations for tenure within the School and the University.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to service and service-learning that meets the expectations of the School and the University.

  • Assume a level of professional leadership and visibility through professional accomplishment in one's specialty, excellent teaching, and commitment to service.

  • Work as a team member to develop, implement, and evaluate outstanding programs in nursing within the context of the School and University's mission.

  • Other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must possess the ability, knowledge and skill to successfully teach, advise and serve undergraduate and graduate nursing students in a university setting, as well as demonstrate scholarship and professional activities commiserate with the appointment and expectations for achieving tenure. Specifically, the teaching role requires content and clinical expertise in adult health nursing, including licensure and certification that are current, unencumbered in the State of Washington.

Required Qualifications:



  • Doctorate in nursing, public health, or related field. ABD will be considered, but doctorate must be in hand by September 1, 2014.

  • Master's degree in Nursing with concentration or focus in Adult Health, Medical-Surgical, Oncology, or Physiological Systems, unless doctorate is in Adult Health.

  • Strong clinical background in adult health or directly related area.

  • Evidence of scholarship and teaching potential.

  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Washington.


Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in Nursing and/or Master's degree in Nursing-Adult Health with doctorate in Public Health.
