Under the general supervision of the Vocational Nurse Senior Supervisor and the MSO I, the Senior LVN provides nursing support and leadership in the Department of Urology. Major duties include: provide patient care in an outpatient setting, assist with urologic procedures such as cystoscopies and bladder installations, start I.V.s, perform venipuncture, administer medications, manage patient flow, collect data as appropriate and provide back-up for the clinic front desk, as needed. The incumbent spends a significant portion of time contributing to the development and implementation of a teaching plan related to self-care for the patient. Experience in Interstim programming for the bladder. Experience in PTNS. Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications Preferred - Knowledge of urologic conditions and their treatments.
Preferred - Ability to assist with cystoscopic examination.
Preferred - Treatment skills including catheterizations and bladder installations.
Required - Ability to perform patient assessments and take appropriate action.
Required - Skill at setting up and maintaining sterile fields.
Required - Skill at effectively communicating with patients, physicians, staff and the public.
Required - Skill at speaking to persons with various backgrounds to obtain information, explain procedures and interpret instructions.
Required - Ability to write concise and clear progress notes.
Required - Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
Required - Ability to meet and maintain one's own professional needs.
Required - Ability to work as part of a team and establish cooperative working relationships with administrators, doctors, peers and public.
Required - Knowledge and experience in administering intramuscular and oral medication and monitoring I.V.
Required - Ability to assess inventory levels.
Required - Ability to promote effective communication to faculty concerning a typical clinic events or patient activities.
Required - Experience with varied computer hardware and software including word processing, spreadsheets and database programs and the UCLA Hospital Information System.
Required - Expertise in speaking clearly and distinctly, in both Spanish and English, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, to obtain and convey information to patients and individuals at various organizational levels, both in person and over the phone.
Required - Knowledge and understanding of medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Required - Knowledge of specific treatment protocols to be utilized.
Required - Expertise in communicating with patients and their families with diplomacy and sensitivity.
Required - Ability to exhibit flexibility in adjusting to changing demands and requirements of the position.
Required - Experience in Interstim programming for the bladder.
