Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has an opening for a Registered Nurse II on our Nephrology unit.
Inpatient medical services are provided on a 24-hour basis. 6SW has 27 private rooms, four (4) of which are rooms with negative pressure airflow for respiratory isolation patients and four (4) of which are rooms aggregated for medical patients with a psychiatric co-morbidity. 6SW has an average daily census of 26.
The General Medical-Surgical Service and Departments of Medicine and Nephrology to provide quality care to adult (aged 15 and higher) medical patients who are acutely ill with a spectrum of diagnoses related to renal disease, as well as other medical diagnoses such as: diabetes, r/o tuberculosis, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, in addition to those patients admitted with psychiatric disorders. Patients are admitted to the unit by their primary care physician or by the Medical-Teaching Faculty Service. An interdisciplinary approach to care is provided throughout the continuum of service. Patient care needs are identified through interdisciplinary assessments, team care planning, and a patient classification system.
There is a special focus on monitoring and observation of renal patients requiring therapeutic procedures such as Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis, care and support of patients with chronic renal disease currently experiencing acute episodes i.e. fluid/electrolyte imbalance, pain management, metabolic support and patient and caregiver education. Respiratory isolation services are provided to those patients requiring ‘airborne precautions’. Medical patients (on section 5150 holds) with psychiatric co-morbidity receive care in a special environment. Patients who require a higher level of care are transferred either to a cardiac monitoring unit or to an intensive care unit (ICU). The practice of nursing is in accordance with the California Registered Nurse Practice Act and Title 22.

A. Experience:
Clinical Nurse II aka Registered Nurse II: the Registered Nurse II is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. One year clinical experience a minimum of 1 year acute care experience.
B. Education -- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
C. License, Certification, or Registration Required -- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California. Current BLS for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association.
D. National Specialty Certifications preferred
E. Language Skills – English Language Proficiency required. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, families and the general public in a positive manner.
F. Mathematical Skills – Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
G. Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical/clinical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Follows the nursing plan of care and initiate changes, need critical thinking skills.
H. Special Qualifications – Able to function effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment. Must be capable of making decisions under pressure and managing anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately.
I. Must possess minimum computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows or comparable system specifically including keyboarding and mouse skills and applicable to individual job duties and expectations, employee must demonstrate competency in use of the applications indicated on the competency checklist.
