Job Summary:


The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine has a 1.0 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a NP or PA. This provider will be working with all Neurosurgery faculty, residents, and staff. This position will be on a rotating days/nights schedule with other advance practice providers. This position provides inpatient care to the Neurosurgery patients on the floor. Primary functions of the position include daily rounds and management of neurosurgery patients on the floor.


Job Description


Clinical duties include:


Daily rounds with the residents, faculty, multidisciplinary staff, and family. Daily progress notes on all neurosurgery floor patients as expected by the Neurosurgery faculty. Admitting patients to the floor, perform history and physical exam of neurosurgery patients, ordering appropriate labs and diagnostic studies and follow up of the ordered labs or studies. Perform efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Performs designated procedures with hospital privileges after demonstrated competency and according to standardized procedures where applicable. Discharging patients, timely documentation of all discharges to provide continuity of care and ensure good communication for the transition to outpatient providers in the community for appropriate follow up. Establishes and maintains communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness and to promote consistency and continuity of care. Triage urgent phone calls from the department staff or operator of outpatients. Participates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to assure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients cared for in the designated service. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Functions as a clinical leader and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses and others on the health care team. Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning. Participates in research activities as requested. Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track and convey information.

Minimum Qualifications: MSN required from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Prescriptive authority required License with Colorado Board of Nursing Current BLS/ACLS certification Minimum Qualifications for PA: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program?with licensure in the state of Colorado Prescriptive authority Current BLS/ACLS certification
