University of Utah is seeking a faculty member to provide educational leadership for University's Interprofessional Education Program. This individual will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary group in contributing to the development of immersion learning experiences to meet the needs of health care trainees and professionals at the University of Utah, Hospitals and Clinics.


The University of Utah and the InterProfessional Education Program are highly collaborative and link the goals of promoting excellence in education among the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, School of Dentistry, College of Health and the Eccles Library. The Programs' facilities include a 12,600 square foot Intermountain Healthcare Simulation Learning Center in the College of Nursing and an 18 room Clinical Skills Training Suite in the Health Sciences Education Building. A centralized staff of technicians and teaching assistants lend support to both simulation facilities.


Currently, the IPE Program consists of a suite of five course credit-bearing scenarios, two inpatient and two outpatient, that include counseling of a non-adherent diabetes patient, discharge of a knee replacement patient, responding to a natural disaster, coordinating stroke care and disclosing a medical error. These scenarios address the four IPEC interprofessional education domain competencies of Values/Ethics, Teams/Teamwork, Roles/Responsibilities, and Communication. The Program will grow to include clinic settings, global health initiatives and other IPE real-life practice settings.


Key responsibilities include:



  • working closely with the health sciences units (e.g., Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health, Dentistry and Eccles Library), undergraduate and graduate medical and nursing education programs, and providers of health-related continuing education (and other UU schools in the future such as Social Work, Law and Business) to closely direct the delivery of high quality learning and assessment scenarios,

  • assuming primary responsibility for creating, coordinating, promoting and conducting interprofessional education experiences across the health sciences working with multiple teams and committees,

  • determining governance structure for and providing direction to the IPE Program committees, including making committee appointments,

  • conducting collaborative research to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation as an educational and assessment tool, and

  • supervising staff, faculty and teaching assistants as IPE Program grows.


Applicants must have either a terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D., Ed.D.) in a relevant discipline (e.g., education, psychology, public health) or an R.N., Pharm.D or MD with advanced training in education (e.g., a Masters in Education). Experience in education (ideally medical/nursing/pharmacy education) is essential. Faculty rank and track will depend on experience and qualifications. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
