The University of Utah, College of Nursing is seeking a qualified Certified Nurse Midwife applicant for a clinical faculty appointment.
The midwife hired into this position will provide comprehensive primary health care to a population of essentially healthy women including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care of pregnant woman. Participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with Obstetricians - Gynecologists and /or other physicians and health professionals as is indicated by presenting problem. The position requires a considerable degree of independent skills and judgment necessary to monitor and respond to changes in patients' condition. Works in both hospital and clinic healthcare environments with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases. Engagement in clinical education is an expectation of the position.
Criteria for the position include graduation from an accredited school of Nurse Midwifery with a master's degree; certification by ACNM; Utah State Licensure; one or more years of Nurse Midwifery primary care and labor and delivery experience (desired); and BCLS. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients and other members of health care team are essential.
Major areas of responsibility include:
Perform accurate history and physical examination on essentially health women concluding with diagnosis and treatment.
Provide primary care to pregnant women including ordering and evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications.
Provide inpatient and outpatient obstetrical care for essentially healthy women.
Provide individualized client teaching and counseling and anticipatory guidance for the current identified problem, weeks gestation and social/cultural situation.
Complete necessary documentation, mark billing encounter form appropriately.
Instruct and supervise/precept nurse midwifery and medical students and residents as assigned. Ensures a positive learning environment.
Participate in research, service statistics collections and continuing education activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The CNM faculty member reports directly to the Clinical Director of BirthCare HealthCare and a Division Chair, indirectly to the Academic Director of the Nurse Midwifery Program and the College of Nursing Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. Yearly evaluation will be performed based on above requirements, functions and responsibilities and with review of set goals according to RPT clinical criteria.
