Posting Description: The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has two full-time faculty positions available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for pediatric general surgery, trauma, transplant, and burn patients at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). These duties will include inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management and discharge. Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric intensive care unit, newborn intensive care unit, acute care areas, and occasionally in the outpatient clinics.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.


Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities: Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges. First assist or surgical assist certification and experience required. Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).


Desired Qualifications: Preference will be given to Nurse Practitioner candidates who are acute care certified. Experience in general surgery, trauma, and critical care setting preferred.
