FNP, Associate Medical Director, Assistant Professor: Clinical Tract


Posting Description:

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Associate Medical Director portion of this position is located at Sheridan Health Services (SHS), a nurse-managed health center operated by the College of Nursing in the city of Sheridan, Colorado. The Assistant Professor position is located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. FNP will uphold the SHS mission by assuring that patients receive health care that is competent, caring, cost-effective, and met with a high degree of satisfaction. This position supports fiscal stability of the organization by meeting productivity standards. We are seeking an FNP for a part time (0.6 FTE) position, with two days/week devoted to clinical care and one day/week devoted to associate medical director responsibilities. A FNP is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides diagnostic and preventive health care. To function in this role, the FNP must have completed a formal educational program specializing in family health care and have met the State Board's regulations that govern advanced practice nursing. The FNP must have both prescriptive authority and a DEA license.


As the associate medical director, FNP will assist the medical director with activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as cost management, utilization review, quality assurance, and medical protocol development. FNP will assist the medical director with oversight of provider activities including recruiting/credentialing and report to the medical director and/or Board of Directors.



  • Performs physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, follow-up, consultation, and health education

  • Obtains patient history and develops comprehensive plan of care

  • Provides health education to students, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups

  • Supervises and/or coordinates the activities of patient care

  • Participates in programmatic planning, developing specific health policies and procedures

  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

  • Performs a variety of job-related duties as assigned

  • Functions as a clinical preceptor and/or clinical instructor for nursing, pharmacy, and medical students

  • Serves as primary care provider for adult patient population

  • Assists with grant reporting as needed

  • Assists Medical Director with the following:

  • Attends standing meetings (board, committee, etc.)

  • Assists with electronic medical record system development and implementation

  • Monitors quality and appropriateness of medical and nursing care

  • Provides guidance and leadership for performance guidelines

  • Develops policies and procedures

  • Manages strategic development

  • Oversees clinical peer review

  • Oversees documentation and care planning

  • Manages provider relations and/or representation

  • Addresses emergency issues

  • Supports provider education

  • Manages community relations

  • Handles provider behavior and impairment issues

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies

  • Collaborates with other departments (e.g., Risk Management, Internal Audit, Employee Services, etc.) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution. Consults with the corporate attorney as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.

  • Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standards of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Develops and oversees a system for uniform handling of such violations.

  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.

  • Monitors, and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.

  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

Minimum Qualifications: * Graduate from an accredited college or university with a doctoral degree (DNP or PhD preferred) in nursing. * Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner * Bachelor's degree in business or health administration, or MBA * Certification by ANCC or other agency * Colorado state licensure as Registered Nurse * Colorado Advanced Practice Registry * Prescriptive authority and DEA number * Current CPR certification * Must have experience working with vulnerable populations who experience difficulty accessing care, preferably within a federally qualified health center * Must be fluent in English & Spanish * Minimum 2 years post masters clinical experience * Previous experience in classroom setting teaching Bachelor of Nursing , Masters , or Doctoral students * Experienced clinical preceptor * Expertise in quality improvement


Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities: * Ability to document in electronic medical record, ensuring completeness and accuracy * Fluency in both English and Spanish * Cultural Competency


Desired Qualifications: * Experience working with population based outcomes preferred
