Job Summary Provides academic advisement to registered nurses who are applicants to or students in the baccalaureate in nursing pathway, inclusive of campus and distance cohorts. Responsible for highly complex professional level student services functions for the School of Nursing RN to BSN pathway. This is inclusive of review of complex individual, group, and organizational problems and recommendation and implementation of proposed solutions to these problems for the RN to BSN advisement program. Counseling/assistance in resolution of psychosocial or financial issues between RN to BSN students/applicants and other departments of the university. Coordination of all recruitment and advisement of 450+ RN to BSN students at multiple distance sites with different academic progression schedules. Pre-enrollment advisement regarding admission requirements, program requirement, coordination of tuition reimbursement with corporate partners and transcript review with Admissions and Records for RN to BSN students. Provision of training and ongoing consultation to School of Nursing faculty regarding advisement, admission, enrollment issues and the appropriate university policies and procedures in these areas that support them. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. The equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. Knowledge regarding nursing programs. Prior experience in presentations to student groups. Demonstrated ability to resolve problems that cross departmental areas in a university setting. Excellent computer skills. A master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Possesses a master's degree.
Special Working Conditions A valid driver's license and/or personal means of transportation. Some driving to distance sites and recruitment events required. Occasional evening presentations required.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check.
