FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Medgar Evers College is a senior college of the City University of New York located in central Brooklyn. In recent years, the college has undergone tremendous growth in student enrollment and expansion in physical facilities. The college enrolls about seven thousand students including close to three thousand students in the School of Science, Health and Technology. The school offers B.S. degree programs in Biology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics and Nursing, AS programs in science and AAS and PN programs in Nursing. Nursing department enrolls about five hundred students in its PN, AAS and B.S. degree programs. The department is located in a new state-of-the-art, $247 million School of Science building with well-equipped smart classrooms, teaching labs and research modules. The Nursing Department has four technologically advanced teaching labs, a hospital mockup room, simulation equipment and a specialized computer lab. The Department of Nursing seeks applications for full-time tenure track faculty positions starting in the Spring 2014 semester. The new faculty will teach undergraduate courses in its day/evening/weekend associate degree and practical nurse programs, and also, its evening RN-BS Completion program. Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
Faculty members are required to oversee and supervise students in clinical courses, teach nursing content and psychomotor skills, provide student advisement, participate in department and college-wide committees, engage in research and scholarly activities, participate in course and curriculum development, and engage in community service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.The qualified candidate must hold a Master`s Degree in Nursing; an earned doctorate (Ph.D., DNC, Ed.D) in nursing or a related field, granted by an accredited institution; clinical expertise in at least one of the following: Community Health Nursing, Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner; obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatric and medical surgical nursing; a current license as a registered nurse in New York State; malpractice insurance; and CPR certification.
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
