The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time, tenure-track position in chemistry for the El Camino College Compton Center. Course assignments include chemistry for nursing majors and introductory chemistry. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Contribute to the growth and development of the chemistry program at the Center. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.
Job Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in chemistry, OR
Bachelor's degree in chemistry AND Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, OR
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Recent community college teaching experience in chemistry;
Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods;
Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles;
Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery;
Effective oral and written communication skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full time, tenure-track teaching position effective January 16, 2014.
