Position Summary: The Department of Nursing in the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for two tenure track positions in critical care nursing and psychiatric nursing at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank with a fall 2014 start date. The successful candidate will be involved in teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level courses; mentoring students; conducting research in areas of specialization; and participating in department, college, and university level committees. The individual may be called upon to teach in an online mode, laboratory simulation and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and /or web-based instruction.


Overview: The Department of Nursing's mission, consistent with the mission of California State University, Fresno is an expression of commitment to excellence in professional education in meeting the health needs of the community. The Department of Nursing offers a baccalaureate program which leads to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a post-baccalaureate School Nurse Services Credential Program, a master's program for Clinical Nurse Specialists/Nurse Educators and Nurse Practitioners in select areas of practice, and a joint Doctor of Nursing Practice program with San José State University.


Faculty Responsibilities: As educators, scholars, colleagues and community members faculty have a responsibility to uphold the standards and ethics called upon by the profession. Regular responsibilities include research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as advising students and engaging in service at all levels of the university.


Required Education: An earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent is required for appointment to a tenure-track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment. Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor requires a higher level of experience and accomplishment in teaching and scholarly productivity than that required for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.


Required Experience: Eligibility for RN licensure in California and BRN Faculty approval as an instructor in the assigned clinical area are required. Experience teaching at the baccalaureate, masters and/or doctoral levels is required. The successful candidate will provide evidence of success in clinical research and teaching expertise in their specialization area, clinical supervision, on-line teaching and laboratory simulation instruction. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a history of attracting external funding and evidence of collaboration with other research scientists are highly desirable. Active participation or leadership roles within the profession of Nursing or relevant professional organizations is preferred. Preferred candidates will have experience with teaching in a distance learning mode, web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction, laboratory simulation instruction, successful grantsmanship, research publications, and experience in outcomes assessment and service learning. An earned doctorate is required for supervision of master's thesis, projects and/or doctoral projects or dissertations.
