Responsibilities
The CNA Instructor will train non-certified persons in basic nursing tasks directed toward safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients. Supervises clinical practice and provides concurrent classroom instruction to students using the state approved pre-certification training program.
Salary
Current approved adjunct rate.
- Must have an associate degree (or higher level degree) in related field.
- Must have at least two (2) years of professional experience directly related to CNA experience.
- Must have current, valid Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse license.
- Must have one (1) year of experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care in a long-term care facility supervising Certified Nurse Aides.
- Must have a current Texas driver's license.
- Must have AHA CPR card and current negative TB test.

DUTIES PERFORMED:
- Maintain accurate attendance and state required performance records for each student.
- Prepare lesson plans to correlate with state mandated course outline.
- Maintain discipline in classroom and clinical settings.
- Participate in faculty, in-service and advisory meetings.
- Administer tests to evaluate student progress.
- Perform related duties such as participating in special activities, providing remedial assistance, and counseling students with academic problems.
- Reports to the CNA Coordinator and CPD Health Occupations Director.
- Assist students in applying for the accreditation examination as needed.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures of San Jacinto College.
- Demonstrates experience in instruction of applicable discipline.
- Ability to work effectively with high?risk, under-prepared, and special-needs students.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Ability to work with designed computer programs and systems.
- Ability to understand and work within the mission and philosophy of the San Jacinto College System.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with students and colleagues.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory.
- Ability to efficiently use teaching aids and technology in the classroom.
- Sensitivity and responsiveness to the diverse backgrounds of Community College students.
- Provides theory instruction in the Certified Nursing Assistant Program.
- Provides clinical supervision, performance counseling, and evaluation of students.
- Complies with DADS policies to maintain program approval and standards.
- Assists and provides feedback to the CNA Coordinator on curriculum improvement issues.
- Courteous and approachable by students.
- Instruction is consistent with the stated and approved content of the course.
- Applies standards of student evaluation which are clear, fair, and followed consistently throughout the course.
- Prepares complete lesson plans and syllabi in accordance with state mandated guidelines.
- Coordinates with other teachers the course contents and methods of the program.
- Must be available to meet and assist students.
- Participates in overall department-wide program development, maintenance, evaluation, revision and/or expansion.
- Attends orientations, staff meetings, and faculty meetings as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
