Director, Student Affairs (SON) – Charles Drew University Of Medicine And Science – Los Angeles, CA

The Student Affairs Office (OSA) serves as the central core for the provision of services to assist students in their academic progression through to graduation and the post graduate experience. The OSA Director works closely with the Learning Resource Center and faculty to enable students to be successful academically by maximizing available educational resources.

Collaborate with the CDU Office of Enrollment and Management services in the management of student records


Work with the Learning Resource Center in monitoring student academic progression


Develop admission, evaluation, advancement, and completion policies


Determine that each applicant for enrollment into the program meets admission criteria.


Collaborate with other nursing faculty in providing students with career counseling and academic advising.


Update the Student Handbook each semester to include, policies, fees, required supplies, and philosophy and objectives of the program.


Participate in recruitment activities, e.g., career and high school fairs.


In consultation with the Dean and Associate Dean, explore state, federal, and philanthropic funding in furthering the MMDSON vision for growth.


In consultation with other nursing faculty members, develop teaching assignments and schedules to allow for adequate preparation, counseling, and effective teaching.


Review all course syllabi for consistency of format and congruence with WASC standards.


Serve as the Chair of the Evaluation Committee, conduct faculty meetings on a regular basis to evaluate and improve program, and maintain meeting minutes.


Orient new faculty members to program expectations.


Ensure that the official curriculum is offered in the appropriate sequence and that class rosters are accurate.


Oversee the process for the submission of the CCNE accreditation application


Work with the Library to maintain a collection, including current reference books and periodicals, accessible to students and faculty.


Consult with the Faculty Clinical Coordinator to ensure that program objectives are being met


Teaching load as assigned to meet department instructional needs.


Requirements:

Education:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university required; Doctorate degree preferred.


Licensed as a Registered Nurse in California.


Experience:

3+ years practical and administrative experience in the field of nursing, student services, preferable in a university and/or independent academic institution.


Must have Board approval for all administrative teaching functions performed in the program.
