One in three Brits visit the doctor less often than normal thanks to health and fitness gadgets, a survey has found.
A third of people credited devices like pedometers and heart rate monitors with improving their health and decreasing their need to seek medical help.
The finding suggests modern technology could play a crucial role in easing the financial pressure on the NHS as the Government looks how to tackle the impact of an ageing population.
Currently the NHS spends £106bn a year on health care – more than double total net spending ten years ago – and the Coalition has implemented wide-ranging reforms in an attempt to tackle the spiralling costs.
The link between gadgets and the need for treatment was found in a survey by the price comparison engine PriceSpy.co.uk taken by 1,008 people.
Fitness came out as the most common concern addressed by health gadgets followed by weight loss, general health, heart condition and improved joints.
