The School of Nursing at Old Dominion University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position as Associate Director for the Nurse Anesthesia program. We are searching for an experienced CRNA who will be able to assist the Program Director in the organization and administration of the program. The successful candidate will be one who will share and contribute to our mission to transform healthcare by preparing exceptional nurses, extending nursing science and partnering with our global community.
Old Dominion University is a public institution located in Norfolk, which is one of 16 cities that make up Hampton Roads, Virginia. It is classified as a Carnegie Research Institution with "high" research activity and a strategic plan increasing commitment to research. The 180-acre campus serves a diverse student population of approximately 22,000. It is nearby museums, sporting and entertainment venues, historical attractions, as well as the Virginia Beach ocean front. Additionally, Washington, DC and the beaches of the North Carolina Outer Banks are relatively short drives from Norfolk.
The School of Nursing is one of five professional schools in the College of Health Sciences, and has an average enrollment of 700 students including 14% African American, 4% Asian, and 3% Latino. The fully accredited Nurse Anesthesia Program admits 15-20 students annually, and enjoys strong support from its alumni and the community. Program offices are based at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center and include a state-of-the-art simulation operating room with an adjacent clinical skills training classroom.
Candidates must have: master's degree in nursing; doctorate in nursing or a related field from a regionally accredited institution; current license or eligibility to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia; minimum 5 years recent clinical experience as CRNA; experience working with military and civilian clinical training sites; and, experience in nurse anesthesia education administration including curriculum development, simulation training, and program accreditation. Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as evidence of the ability to provide scholarly mentorship to students when the program transitions to the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2015, is highly desirable.
