Assistant Professor
(Full-time One Year Term Position - Terrace Campus)
The University of Northern British Columbia is ranked as one of Canada's best small universities with a core campus in Prince George and regional campuses throughout northern BC. The School of Nursing offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN) in collaboration with the College of New Caledonia (Prince George and Quesnel) and the Northwest Community College in Terrace. The Rural Nursing Certificate Program (RNCP) offered by the School of Nursing is a provincial, practice-driven program that prepares registered nurses to practice in rural and remote areas of the province. Finally, at the undergraduate level the School of Nursing offers a pathway for registered nurses to pursue their Bachelor of Science degree in our Post-Diploma RN Program. The School of Nursing also offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) degree with two streams, the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) - a clinical Masters degree leading to registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia as an FNP and is delivered mainly through the World Wide Web; UNBC also offers a Masters degree in Nursing (MScN), by course work and research thesis.
The University of Northern British Columbia, in conjunction with the School of Nursing, invites applications for the Term Position, at the rank of Assistant Professor. Primary responsibilities will include: development and delivery of nursing courses, coordinating and teaching nursing laboratory courses and building strong community and health service links with Northern Health for the benefit of the nursing education, research, and practice development. Active contribution to clinical nursing simulation as a teaching resource is also necessary. Close collaboration with rural communities, regional community colleges, health service agencies and their personnel is a strong feature of UNBC in general and the School of Nursing in particular. The position is accountable to the Chair of Nursing at UNBC, works with Nursing staff and faculty in other campuses, and is supported by the Regional Chair of the Northwest UNBC Campus.
Minimum education requirement for the position is a Master's in Nursing or related field. A PhD or substantial progress in a doctoral program is preferred. Relevant teaching and clinical experience in epidemiology, paediatrics, and community or public health nursing is sought but applicants with practice specialization in other areas are welcome to apply. Applicants will be required to present evidence of experience and excellence in teaching and scholarly work. Strong organizational, initiative-taking, small teamwork skills and high-level communication skills are essential. RN registration or eligibility to register with the CRNBC is required. As some travel by road and air to other campuses and northern communities is required, eligibility for or a valid BC driver's license is required.
