Job Summary: Provides guidance and oversight to faculty on optimal teaching methods for required coursework and facilitates student success in the Nursing program.
Essential Job Functions:
Duties |
Conducts student orientations for department, including nursing program expectations, state requirements and a realistic job preview. Delivers initial training to new Nursing faculty and guides new and existing faculty on the teaching philosophy, methods and tools advocated by the College. |
Assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of curricula for the Nursing program. Revises curriculum and advocates hands on methods to optimally deliver instruction. Provides feedback on changes to materials and procedures for students and faculty based on regulatory changes and best practice analysis. |
Plans and presents clinical or laboratory experiences that provide an optimal learning environment for students and reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives and curriculum of the Nursing Education Program. Monitors regulatory changes and delivery method trends and communicates changes and best practices to faculty. |
Monitors classroom performance and evaluates the instruction provided by nursing faculty. |
Evaluates and documents student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes. Are they passing classes/state board exam. Recommends curriculum changes to enhance passage of state exam. |
Performs other duties as assigned. |
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master of Science degree in Nursing.
Three years of experience teaching in an accredited Nursing program
Experience with teaching in a simulation lab
Knowledge of state and national accreditation standards
Preferred Education and Experience:
Three years of experience designing curriculum for Nursing programs
Experience evaluating and teaching instructional methods and techniques to teaching faculty
Licenses and Certifications:
Current Registered Nurse license from Texas State Board of Nursing
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License. Must be insurable through Alamo Colleges' insurers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults and teaching methodology.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other systems used in instruction of faculty and students.
- Current clinical experience in medical/surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, or nursing management.
- Experience teaching in a simulation lab.
- Knowledge of state and national accreditation standards.
Supervision Exercised:
Indirect supervision of faculty, support staff and students.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
