Posting Description: The PRA will provide the psychosocial motivational interviewing intervention for the FL3X (Flexible Lifestyle 3mpowering Change) study in adolescents with type 1 diabetes at the BDC. In addition, the Diabetes Intervention Coach will coordinate with the other parts of the research team to insure protocol integrity. This position will provide both research and clinical expertise in psychosocial interventions with adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
The research responsibilities will include:
- Completion of training to do Motivational Interviewing, the primary intervention in the FL3X protocol
- Clinical eligibility review and recruitment of study participants
- Abstract data from patient electronic record
- Schedule and complete study visits
- Interview human subjects participating in the clinical trial
- Implement the targeted psychosocial interventions with study participants and their parents
- Record data results in the study data base
- Data entry
- Track patient participation
- Participate in all phone conferences (multisite study) to ensure study integrity and review
- Continue training in Motivational Interviewing with other MI coaches in the study
- Conduct literature searches.
- Tasks associated with routine clinical charting Administrative responsibilities may include scheduling research meetings and appointments, making travel arrangements as well as assisting with other administrative duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a minimum of a RN, RD, SW or BS/BA degree in related health field with minimum of 1-2 years professional work experiences. Extensive previous work experience in pediatric type 1 diabetes is essential.
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
Desired Qualifications: Certification as a CDE; bi-lingual in English/Spanish is a plus to conduct the intervention with subjects and their families; previous experience in clinical research and motivational interviewing.
