Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing – Spring 2014

The full-time faculty member holds a faculty appointment and has administrative and academic responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the College, Nursing Program. This faculty member is knowledgeable and able to apply QSEN and KSA framework, Massachusetts Board of Nursing Regulations, Department of Public Health Regulations, the National League for Nursing Accreditation Standards, and American Nurses Association Standards. The full-time faculty member is responsible for instructional preparation and teaching of nursing courses and may include skills lab assignment. The faculty member is responsible for collaboration with the course team between the three components of class, clinical and lab. The faculty member is responsible for developing current educational and evaluation material and carries a course load consistent with the College Faculty Policies. The faculty member participates in the review and evaluation of nursing courses and in the evaluation of student performance. He/She participates in departmental division and college related committees and activities. The full-time faculty member demonstrates sound clinical knowledge and skills; competence in teaching evidenced by clinical experience and teaching and/or academic teaching; routine computer skills necessary to be successful in faculty role e.g. word and power point. Current Massachusetts license in good standing and required certifications immunizations are current along with a satisfactory CORI.

II. Qualifications



  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

  • MSN required ,Doctorate in Nursing preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience (current)

  • Current Massachusetts RN License in good standing

  • Minimum of two years of academic experience and/or two years of clinical teaching experience

  • Minimum of two years of relevant and current clinical practice

  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills

  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of computer technology

  • Knowledge of NLN accreditation, ANA Standards, NCLEX and State rules and regulations governing nursing programs

  • Teaching responsibilities

  • Prepares course objectives and syllabi in a manner consistent with stated program premises and policies. (1)

  • researches, organizes and prepares all material for assigned courses (5,6)

  • reviews and selects appropriate text books for use with assigned courses (1)

  • effectively instructs students using methods consistent with program philosophy (1)

  • if applicable, meets regularly (at least weekly) with lab instructors, clinical instructors to coordinate content teaching approach, and lab practical exams (3)

  • develops, and administers and evaluates effective assessment tools (6)

  • provides appropriate feedback to students regarding their performance (1)

  • Incorporates cultural sensitivity, diversity factors, special risk population risk factors, literacy awareness and developmental stages into lectures and assignments as appropriate (2)

  • maintains well organized records of student attendance, participation and grades (1)

  • adheres to Nursing program and college academic standards and grading policies (1)

  • maintains at least 2 office hours per week for each course taught (1)

  • performs job responsibilities of clinical instructor found in Bay State College clinical instructor job description when performing this role (1)

  • Student Related Duties


Supports and enhances student success and related activities

  • acts as a student advisor (1)

  • meets with students as needed to provide tutorials (1)

  • assists Dean in advising student organizations as needed (3)

  • Administrative

  • assists with Registration (1)

  • gives input into revision of manuals, and policies/procedures (1)

  • participates in regularly scheduled meetings with Dean (3)


F) Program Evaluation

  • participates in annual evaluation of library resources and utilization (6)

  • participates in outcome assessment process as needed (6)

  • assists program director in analysis of outcomes data (6)

  • assures courses taught are accreditation ready (6)

  • assures student assessment activities are in concert with NCLEX preparation (6)


G) Curriculum Evaluation and Revision

  • performs course review and completes course review form for every course taught (6)

  • participates in semester course reviews and curriculum review (6)

  • assists with the initial formulation of proposals for curriculum changes (6)

  • attends and participates in annual Curriculum Review meeting (3)


H) Accreditation Activities

  • provides input into written reports and documents as requested (1)

  • participates in on-site accreditation visits and process (1,6)


I) Professional Responsibilities

  • maintains professional license in good standing (1)

  • mentors new faculty as assigned (1, 3)

  • membership in Nursing Organization encouraged (1)

  • maintains current professional knowledge and skills (5)

  • networks with campus and off-campus resources (3)


J) Performance Evaluation

  • develops professional goals with assistance of Dean at least yearly (6)

  • participates in self evaluation process (6)

  • meets with Dean regularly to assess progress toward goals (3,6)
