Effective Date: Fall Semester, 2014
Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in nursing or a related field preferred with a Master's degree in Nursing required. Current Iowa nursing license (individuals are currently licensed when licensed in another state and recognized for licensure in Iowa, pursuant to the nurse license compact contained in Iowa code section 152E.1). Expertise in medical/surgical nursing is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with recent experience in a baccalaureate nursing program with both classroom and clinical teaching.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with secondary expertise in Obstetrics, Pediatrics, or Mental Health is desirable. Applicants without a doctorate must have a specific plan for completing a doctorate in nursing or a related field to be considered for the position.
Responsibilities: Faculty in the Department of Nursing teach the classroom and clinical components within the same course. Faculty with a doctoral degree have the opportunity to teach in the graduate program. Preparation for teaching includes development of the syllabus and compliance with clinical agency policies and procedures. Newly appointed faculty are usually exempt from service on University committees during their first year, but they are expected to serve on Nursing Department Committees according to Nursing Department by-laws. All nursing faculty are expected to serve as academic advisors to students according to University policy.
